I had occasion to sit at Starbucks nearby for the better part of the morning today. I needed to clear out of the home office to give the cleaning lady her room, and I needed my insane venti Americano anyway. So I packed up my laptop, the New York Times, and my cell phone and headed down to the Bear Creek Starbucks.
When I arrived, there was the usual line of on-the-way-to-work coffee drinkers, and the folks sitting around generally fell into the suburban housewife category, sitting in groups of two in their lululemon athletic gear, fresh from the morning's power walk, or dropping off the kids, or whatever it is that got them out of the house. I snagged the one remaining comfy chair and quickly lost myself in today's headlines and my coffee.
About 90 minutes later, I looked up, and was surprised to see that all the women had cleared out along with their lycra, and their places had been taken by the Dockers convention and men in casual Friday attire. Still in groups of two -- as far as I could tell, all of them were doing some sort of job interviewing. Who knew? Now I need to sit through an afternoon and find out who takes over after the lunch crowd.
